![]() ![]() I want to be able to both put the Windows machine to sleep when I'm not using it, and to be able to play games on it (I'm not sure if Synergy works well for gaming). But I'd have to think through how to do this. I guess another possibility would be just to use Synergy or something like that. ![]() (Of course switching the monitor inputs by hand would be more of a hassle, too.) My monitor only has one DVI input, but maybe I should get a new monitor that has two, which would open up a wider variety of possible KVM switches because I would only need to switch USB and not the DVI. I guess I'd be open to getting another KVM switch if there's a model that works better. The resolution for the Aimos KVM switch is 4K 30Hz, which is fantastic, and means that this is a great option for gaming. KVM Switches (KVM stands for keyboard, video and mouse). So, is there anything I can do to make this work better? Like Apples Universal Control, but Open Source and with support for Windows and Linux too. if I VNC in as soon as the mouse hangs, it looks like I'll be able to restart the system cleanly, but as I attempt to do this I find that more and more applications are hanging and no matter what I do the restart will fail to complete. What's worse is, at this point the Mac seems to wind up in some kind of unstable state where processes become more and more unresponsive until there's nothing I can do but do a hard power-off. A premium KVM switch for setting up an efficient workspace and work safe from home. Even unplugging and replugging the USB doesn't help-even if I unplug from the KVM entirely and plug the USB receiver directly into the Mac, it won't detect the keyboard or mouse anymore. Recommend to use 2 HDMI monitors display outputs. ![]() Once every few switches the mouse and keyboard will be hung with seemingly no way to get them back. The keyboard and mouse are a Microsoft Wireless Desktop something-or-other, which uses just one USB connection to the receiver for both the keyboard and mouse (just in case this is significant somehow).Īnyway, the problem is that, while switching to the Windows machine always works, switching to the Mac is just not reliable. In fact, pretty disappointed in the lack of real shortcuts for KVM switching. Not exactly what I would call a shortcut. Switching is a bit cumbersome, and have to hit the button and scroll down to select one monitor of the other. A Mac and iPad sit side by side on a desk. Computer 2 - MacBook with USB Type-C / Thunderbolt 3, leveraging a Dell docking station with Thunderbolt support. Would the next best and maybe only way after a docking station be to connect a USB hub to the monitor and connect my keyboard and mouse to that? I guess I would lose the option to use speakers with the laptop since they would be connected to the PC but I don't mind that.I have a Belkin Flip DVI KVM switch connected to my Mac mini and a Windows 7 box. Luna harnesses the power of your desktop and extends your workspace onto a touchable device. My monitor is the LG 24GL850 that has a USB-A port. From what I understand, connecting MacBook to a monitor through HDMI results in lower visual quality (and it definitely looked like crap when I hooked it up through HDMI) and that I would need a DisplayPort instead to have best quality possible. I have also seen other docks, of course, but they seem to only have HDMI ports. I realize it’s unlikely any KVM switch supports my requirements, so open to any and all suggestions. The thing is, TS4 costs a whopping ~450 euros, I'm not willing to pay that kind of money and was hoping that there's a cheaper way of doing things. Support 4K 120Hz over DisplayPort (my monitor doesn’t have HDMI 2.1) I’m looking to buy a Mac mini that was announced today for work, but I still want my gaming PC at the ready. Hi, I'm planning on building a setup and would like to use the same monitor, keyboard and mouse with both MacBook M1 and a Windows PC.įrom what I have seen, a dock is needed for that and the one I've been seeing while browsing such setups is CalDigit TS3 / TS4. ![]()
